A 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica provided the lead lot of RM Sotheby's Amelia Island auction on March 14, realising $6.3m.
The auction house explained prior to the sale: "In the realm of the Ferrari Superamerica, the 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolets have always been the most desirable.

"As this car features gorgeous coachwork, unrivalled luxury, the shorter wheelbase chassis, and the most potent 4.0-liter V-12 engine, it can truly be considered one of the greatest grand touring Ferraris of all time."
A 1955 Jaguar D-Type proved another highlight, with a final bid of $3.6m.
Shelby Myers, a car specialist at RM, said: "The Jaguar D-Type is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of the 1950s.
"With the prices of Italian endurance race cars currently soaring, the D-Type Jaguar represents incredible value, especially considering its historical significance and eligibility for the world's great vintage motorsport events."
The record breaking auction pulled in $60.3m, the highest total for any sale held during Amelia Island week.
RM's Duff Gord commented: "The outstanding sale total is a sign of the ever-expanding market for blue-chip collector cars, with bidders hailing from no fewer than 22 countries, of which 22 percent were new to RM Sotheby's."
