Gooding & Company sold a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix for $3.3m in its Scottsdale auction on January 20-21.
That is a record for the model.

The model notched up almost 1,000 wins at races throughout the 1920s.
This example was originally owned by Wallis C Bird, heir to the American Standard Oil fortune and a keen amateur racing driver.
After his death in 1941, it remained with his widow until she passed away in 1961.
Noted collector Henry Austin Clark acquired it from the Bird estate and has owned it ever since.
