Kendall & Nebel's war book sells for $13,200 in San Francisco

A copy of George Kendall and Carl Nebel's The War Between the United States and Mexico Illustrated sold for $13,200 at PBA Galleries in San Francisco on May 14.

Mexican American Kendall
The book was printed in a limited run

Kendall travelled with the US army to Texas to cover the Mexican-American war in 1851. On his return he enlisted the help of artist Carl Nebel to illustrate a book about the conflict.

Very few were ever published. The auction house described it as a "magnificently produced portfolio by...the first modern war correspondent".
