The works of Charles Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll, have had a significant impact at auction. Notably, the copy of his most famous work Alice in Wonderland owned by the child he created it for, Alice Liddell, sold for $115,000 at auction.
Another very special copy of the work has come up for auction: one of only 25 copies of a special edition of the book.
The work, with front and back cover in cork, features hand-drawn and painted opening and ending pictures by the artist FacundoAlí, and 11 etchings by the late Argentinean artist, Alicia Scavino.
The work is coming up for auction at PBA galleries in San Francisco this Thursday, March 4 2010, and is estimated at $15,000-25,000.
