You're looking at possibly the last signature of John F Kennedy.

Signed less than four hours before Kennedy was fatally shot

Kennedy is said to have signed this card on the morning of November 22 1963, less than four hours before he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.

The macabre piece of presidential history sold for $11,025 at Goldin Auctions' Winter Sale on January 29.

Kennedy signed the card during a prayer breakfast at the Hotel Texas in Fort Worth on the morning of November 22. That breakfast took place between 8:45 and 9:10.

Following his speech at the event, Kennedy and wife Jacqueline took the short flight to Love Field, Dallas. From there the presidential cavalcade departed for downtown Dallas, where Kennedy was fatally shot at 12:30.

It is the first signature from the prayer breakfast to have emerged. No later signature is known to exist.

“Given the events of that day, it's more than likely that this item might have been one of the last ever Kennedy signatures," explained the auctioneer.

One earlier autograph from the day does exist, however.

Before the prayer meeting, Kennedy signed a copy of that day's Dallas Morning News for a maid at the hotel, Jan White.

That newspaper sold for $38,837 in 2009 and until now had been the undisputed "last" autograph.

The self-authenticating nature of the newspaper helps explain the difference in value of the two pieces.

Items connected with Kennedy's last day historically sell for large sums. The number plates affixed to the fateful presidential limousine auctioned for $100,000 in 2015.
