A ground breaking Al Capone archive, featuring a signed family snap shot, an official copy of Capone's death certificate and numerous funeral photos, has been put up for sale by US auction house RR Auction.

Al’s letter to his doctor features a request for red pills

The collection, which is highlighted by a seldom seen Al Capone handwritten letter signed "Truly Yours, Al Capone", is offered from the estate of Capone's personal physician.

Following friendly greetings, the mobster writes to his doctor: "please send me 2 boxes of them red pills for bowels movement."

At the time of writing, the rare missive has garnered bids of $14,641. The auction concludes on June 19.

A baseball signed by both Al Capone and Babe Ruth sold for $61,863 in February 2013 - testament to the scarcity of examples of Capone's handwriting.

In terms of collectibles, controversy often proves a strong selling point.  Take a look at this amazing collection of Albert Pierrepoint memorabilia we currently have in stock, which includes casts of the prolific hangman's hands and face, memorialising every pore and wrinkle.
