Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama sold well in Sotheby's Contemporary Asian Art auction in Hong Kong yesterday (October 7) with both Venus Nets and Pumpkin featuring.

Kusama is one of the most important living female artists in the world today. Following a move to New York in 1958 and her association with the pop art movement, she is said to have influenced leading contemporary artists such Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.
Her Venus Nets and Statue of Venus Obliterated by Infinity Nets sold for $544,303 against an estimated value of $451,000-580,000. The work belongs to a series of 13 artworks created using the Venus image that were produced in 1998.
