Poster Auctions International will auction over 500 lots of rare, vintage posters in its sale of Art Nouveau and Art Deco masterpieces on May 2.
To mark the semi-annual sale's 50th anniversary, only the world's finest and 'most important' posters have reportedly been chosen, from the world's most prestigious private collections.
Among the lots is an incredible collection of 40 rare automobile posters, including classic car ads for Chrysler and Bugatti and for early races at Monaco and Le Mans.
Some of the finest examples of historic aviation posters, posters on silk and exceptionally rare Buffalo Bill posters will also feature, along with strong collection of art deco.
The latter will include one of the largest collections of works by the German Expressionist Walter Schnackenberg ever assembled.
As befits an auction boasting the world's finest and 'most important' posters, over 30 works by the Father of the Poster, Jules Cheret, will also be up for sale to collectors.
Pre-sale viewings for the posters begin on April 9 through to May 1, free to the public in New York City.
In other posters news, artwork for Fritz Lang's groundbreaking 1927 sci-fi classic Metropolis from the collection of Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett sold at Heritage Auction Galleries for $47,800, last week (March 19).
