Kapoor's record stands at $1.9m - low in comparison with some of his peers given his status as one of the world's foremost contemporary artists.
This is a largely a result of the fact that he generally takes on large scale public installations rather than multiples. He stated to Bloomberg in 2010: "I'm not interested in art that is about the market: I find that small, small-minded
"All artists are after the idea that the work endures Monetary value is part of the test of endurance."
Alexander Calder's Araignee (Maquette) was another highlight of the sale, achieving £362,500 ($622,010).
Calder was clearly influenced by the natural world, with many of his earlier sculptures taking the form of animals.
The record figure for Calder's work at auction remains $18.5m, set by his Lily of Force in New York in 2012.
