Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's (1864-1901) Astride Bruant poster auctioned in New York on February 5 for $60,000. The rare poster, which is believed to be circa 1893, sold within its $60,000-90,000 estimate, suggesting the market for stylistically typical works by Lautrec remains buoyant.

The poster features a simple, stylised outline of Paris nightclub owner and cabaret performer Astride Bruant (1851-1925), his rakish figure, somewhat unusually, facing away from the viewer, wrapped in a billowing black coat and debonair red scarf.
Rare vintage posters are hot property at the moment, the esteemed Hans Sachs collection having crossed the auction block at the end of January, bringing great results.
