Three star lots set to shine brightest in a galaxy of unique pieces on sale this week

Lancashire is the setting for a two day sale of antiques, fine art, silver, jewellery and other quality collectibles.

The event is being held by Gerrard's auction room in Lytham, St Annes and is offering a wide range of pieces at entry level investment prices.

In particular, the second day of the event held tomorrow, Friday August 20, 2010, is offering up three star lots which highlight the variety of pieces up for sale.

The first is a unique piece of collectible art in the form of a sculptured bronze figure created by Maurice Blik entitled "Dancers."

Maurice Blik's "Dancers" Sculpture

This lot is certainly a special one, with Blik regarded by many as one of the leading sculptors of his generation and a prominent member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.

One critic effectively sums up his work with the following:

"Maurice Blik's sculpture expresses the intensity of feeling we experience when engulfed by life's great forces...his vision is of the fragile nature of life, yet within this fragility he explores the human qualities of endurance and dignity..."

The sculpture measures 10 ½ x 9 ½ inches and depicts two dancers on a marble plinth with the male figure suspended in the air and resting on the full flared skirt of the female dancer.

The piece carries a pre-auction estimated price of £2,700 to 3,250, though it looks likely to exceed this figure given the popularity of the artist.

An investment in such an art piece today is sure to increase in value in years to come.

the Victorian clock on sale

Elsewhere for collectors of timepieces, the sale offers up a late Victorian Mahogany Quarter-Chiming Long case Clock.

Measuring 17 ½ x 12 inches, the clock case features beautifully glazed wooden side panels and trunk door.

And the timepiece's face itself features an arch shape dial with scroll and floral engravings as well as silvered gilt numerals, chapter dial, applied gilt spandrels and steel hands.

The clock also includes eight tubular bells for a traditional sounding chime and carries a target price of £8,000 to 10,000

Yet the crowning piece of the sale is, rather appropriately, a diamond.

Tomorrow's auction will be offering bidders the chance to add a 3.50 carat single stone a diamond solitaire ring to their collection.

Designed with a round brilliant cut modern diamond and a six claw setting, this is one piece that looks set to impress jewellery collectors at the event.

The piece carries a pre auction estimated price of £12,000 to 14,000.

So while Gerrard's sale may be reaching the half way mark, with unique art, watches and jewellery pieces still to come, now may be the time to consider an investment in one of the fastest growing collectibles markets in the world.
