A series of Star Wars Stormtrooper helmets designed by famous artists will sell for charity at Paddle8.
Titled Art Wars, the annual sale includes re-imaginings of the iconic helmet by eight artists – including Anish Kapoor and Miranda Donovan.
Anish Kapoor created the helmet using mixed media
Kapoor’s example is the standout, with a current bid of £30,000 ($37,952).
The work is painted in the artist’s trademark red and is signed at the very top, with a white line running around the sides.
Kapoor is a celebrated contemporary artist best known for his large scale public installations.
His record at auction is $3.8m, so collectors are jumping at the chance to snap up a piece of his work at a relatively modest price.
Meanwhile, Dan Baldwin’s Storm is at £8,000 ($10,120).
The work is a typically maximalist, graffiti inspired work from the artist and displays a gold leaf interior.
Proceeds from the sale will go to two charities, Missing People and the Missing Tom Fund.
It remains to be seen whether any of the pieces can match the record $120,000 paid for a Stormtrooper helmet from the Empire Strikes Back in 2015.
