The lot made $453,150 in the Fine Chinese Paintings and Southeast Asian Art sale in Hong Kong on May 29.

The proceeds will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Mandela produced the drawings to auction for charity in 2001. In 2004 a group of 39 artists created their own interpretations of the works, with Tan Swie Hian painting Mandela's hand motifs with Buddhist symbols.
