Sidney Nolan artworks set for August 20 sale

A number of artworks by late Australian artist Sidney Nolan (1917-1992) are to auction at Bonhams Sydney on August 20.

The circa 1973 woven wool tapestry entitled Constable Fitzpatrick and Kate Kelly is expected to sell for $73,000

An unusual, circa 1973 woven wool tapestry entitled Constable Fitzpatrick and Kate Kelly is among the highlights offered from the artist's estate.

The dramatic tapestry is based on Nolan's 1946 painting of the same name. It is estimated to be worth $45,000-73,000.

Original Nolan artworks rarely come to market. The majority are housed in public art galleries; Nolan donated many works to public art galleries before his death.

Australian art is hugely popular among collectors. In June 2013, the Grundy collection made an unprecedented $19.2m.
