Mucha's Times of the Day hammers for $50,000 at Swann

Times of the Day, a set of four decorative panels by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), has sold for $50,000 at Swann Auction Galleries in New York.

The lot was the highlight of the February 25 sale of vintage posters that also included works by Toulouse-Lautrec and Hans Rudi Erdt.

The four panels personify the hours of the day

Titled Morning Awakening, Daytime Dash, Evening Reverie and Nightly Rest, the posters feature Mucha's characteristic depictions of women in diaphanous gowns.

In June last year a complete set of Mucha's popular four seasons series sold for $65,000 at Bonhams New York.
