Sanyu's Nu was the star lot of a sale of Modern Asian Art at Sotheby's Hong Kong this morning.
The work made $675,760 against a valuation of $28,371.
It was one of a collection of 25 works by the artist to feature in the auction. Sanyu was a Chinese-born artist who moved to France in the early 1920s.
He focused mainly on painting nudes, a practice that was utterly forbidden in China at the time.
