Kathleen Petyarre's Mountain Devil makes $29,000

Kathleen Petyarre's Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming (1998) was among the headline lots of a sale of Aboriginal Australian art on the weekend.

It sold for $28,760 at Bonhams Sydney on September 6.

Petyarre is one of Australia's most important living artists. Her pointillist paintings have been compared to the work of the American modernists.

Her auction record stands at $96,000 for Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming, set in 2008.
