Jean Prouve designed the building as a mobile barracks for French troops

The lot was designed in around 1943-1944 as a mobile barracks for French troops that could be flat packed and quickly assembled, and was later used as an office.

Prouve became known as an expert in the design of such buildings, later creating the Maison Tropicale - which was produced to address a shortage of housing in French Africa.
