Banksy's Mariachi Player mural valued at $200,000 ahead of sale

Banksy's Mariachi Player mural will highlight a sale of street art at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills on June 26 with a $150,000-200,000 estimate.

The work was created in 2001 while the artist was on tour in Mexico with Bristol, UK-based amateur football team the Easton Cowboys.

The piece is one of a number of murals he painted in Mexico, many of which contain messages of support for the Zapatistas - a radical left wing group that fights for a range of issues, including the return of land to indigenous peoples.

Other lots include Anarchy Rat, which was painted in a Berlin graveyard in the early 2000s and carries an estimate of $50,000-70,000.

Anarchy Rat was one of the first of Banksy's paintings to be removed from its original location

It was one of the first of the artist's works to be professionally removed and preserved for sale.

The market for Banksy is exceptionally buoyant, with his Kissing Coppers selling for $575,000 at Fine Art Auctions Miami in February this year.

Last year, Flower Girl made $204,000 at Julien's.

The sale will feature work from other well known artists, including 10 Ways to Make Him Notice You - a large scale piece painted in Berlin by the FAILE collective.

The group was established in 1999 and is known for its use of multimedia.
