A signed print of Irving Penn's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is expected to see the highest bids in Heritage Auctions' November 2 Signature Auction in Dallas.

The photograph was taken in 1946 for Vogue magazine, with this print inscribed by Penn to actor Ray Bolger, who played Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz (1939). A unique piece, it is expected to sell for between $25,000 and $40,000.

Irving Penn (1917-2009) was one of the world's foremost photographers, known for his portraiture and fashion work for Vogue. His work is varied and includes many images of some of the world's top creative geniuses.

Following his death in 2009, Christie's auctioned the largest collection of Penn's photographs, led by 2 Guedras, 1972 - a stunning example of his ethnographic work - at $314,500.

Further fashion highlights include Helmut Newton's Woman into Man, which was taken for Yves St Laurent for French Vogue in 1979. It is estimated at $15,000-25,000.

Edward S Curtis' The North American Indian is the greatest photographic documentation of Native American tribes ever created

Historical photographs will be led by Edward S Curtis' Before the Storm, an image taken in 1906 showing four riders from the White Mountain Apache tribe, which first appeared in Curtis' celebrated The North American Indian - the greatest documentation of the indigenous peoples of North America ever created.

The photograph was printed using the Orotone technique that Curtis pioneered, which involves printing images directly onto glass and backing it with gold metallic particles. It is this that gives his work the three-dimensional quality for which it is known.
