The euro slumped to its lowest mark against the dollar for more than a year on Thursday (January 5).
It also hit an 11-year-low against the yen, with the growing cost of borrowing in France thought to be partly behind the figures.
The numbers are a further reminder to Forex investors of the current instability of the currency.
Such uncertainty is prompting a growing number of investors to diversify into a range of new areas, including the exciting collectibles sector.
There are currently enticing investment opportunities in classic cartoon art.
Original works by Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz are in particular demand.
It's hardly surprising, considering the comic strip has appeared in newspapers in 75 different countries.
Schulz died in 2000. The small, finite number of original Schulz works is today sought after by a growing body of nostalgic collectors.
In 2007, six original Peanuts panels were sold at auction for $193,000.
Two hand-drawn Peanuts comic strips sold for $85,000 each in 2008.
And there are opportunities for investors at the more manageable end of the sector as well.
Paul Fraser Collectibles has an original, unsigned 6" x 4" original Schulz pencil drawing of Peanuts character Lucy available for £995 (approx. $1,540).

Schulz produced the fine condition drawing for an advertising agency in San Francisco, which handled an account for Butternut Bread circa 1970.
