Henry Moore's Madonna and Child has sold for £35,000 ($53,379) at Bonhams London.

Henry Moore's Madonna and Child dates to 1952

Moore drew the previously unrecorded work for a Christmas charity fundraiser in 1952. After the event was over he gave the piece to the organiser.

Matthew Bradbury, Bonhams' director of British and Irish art, comments : "It has been fascinating to come across this previously unrecorded work.

"This drawing exemplifies Moore's interest in abstractions of the human figure and its story provides a touching insight into the mind of its artist."
