Harry Bertoia's Spray sculpture estimated to make $70,000

Harry Bertoia's Spray, a kinetic sculpture, is valued at $50,000-70,000 ahead of Heritage Auctions' April 23 design sale in Dallas.

The piece is typical of Bertoia's (1915-1978) work, which is largely characterised by elegant forms that produce incidental sound.

Rhino bronze Lalanne
Work by Les Lalannes is hugely popular with collectors

His work has proven popular among collectors of late, with a work titled Golden Rods achieving an increase of 162% on its estimate at Phillips New York in December last year.

His auction record stands at $578,500 - set by a large scale piece titled Screen Tree at Christie's New York in 2012.

Rhinoceros Mecanique (1980), a bronze sculpture by Francois-Xavier Lalanne, is expected to make $25,000-35,000.

Lalanne (1927-2008) is best known for the work he produced alongside his wife Claude Lalanne.

The pair produced abstract and surreal sculptures under the name Les Lalannes, which have appeared in the collections of Yves Saint Laurent and Serge Gainsbourg among others.

Like many of their pieces, the sculpture is hinged and opens out to reveal storage space.

Recent sales of work by Les Lalannes include L'enlevement D'Europe, which sold for $485,000 at Sotheby's New York. A "Mouton" model sheep made $341,000 in June last year.

A pair of marble and iron bird armchairs, also by Francois Lalanne, carry an identical estimate of $25,000-35,000.
