Out to Sea, Point Lobos, a painting by Guy Rose (1867-1925) made $197,000 at Heritage Auctions on November 14.

Rose first learned to paint while recovering from a gunshot wound sustained on a hunting trip in 1876, and went on to study at the Academie Julian in Paris.
He became one of the leading American impressionists and, in his later years, a close friend of Claude Monet following a move to Giverny, France in 1899.
His record at auction is $1.9m for Owens River, Sierra Nevada.
We have this handwritten letter signed by Claude Monet in 1920.
Siberian Girl (1922) by Leon Gaspard (1882-1964) realised $118,750.

Gaspard was a Russian born painter best known for his portraits of the indigenous tribes of Siberia, Asia and the US.
The painting was lucky to survive up to the present day, after being stored in a basement for almost half a century.
In the 1950s it was gifted to Roman Wronski, the maintenance man of a luxury complex in downtown Chicago, by a wealthy couple - who had been moved by his appreciation for the painting when he had been carrying out work in their apartment.
Wronski's wife Mae, however, detested the painting and insisted it be kept in the basement or thrown out - despite her husband's protestations that the work was valuable.
There it sat until 2003, when it passed into the possession of Wronski's niece - who made enquiries into its history.
In recent years Gaspard's price point at auction has increased significantly, following a series of posthumous retrospectives.
A painting titled The Finish of the Kermesse auctioned for $2m at Christie's New York in 2007.
