George Stubbs's Broad Mares and Foals could canter to £15m at Sotheby's

An exceptional painting by British artist George Stubbs is expected to bring up to £15m when it goes under the hammer at Sotheby's on December 8.

Stubbs, born in Liverpool, remains most famous for his paintings of horses. This work, Brood Mares and Foals, dates to 1767.

According to reports, the painting has remained in the family of the Earl of Macclesfield, who has consigned it to the auction.

Sotheby's sale will take place in London.
