A George IV mahogany dining table has taken the plaudits at Christie's An English Taste auction in London.
The three pedestal piece, produced around 1825, possibly in Ireland, sold for £49,250 ($79,600) at the September 26 sale, which consisted solely of items collected by renowned auctioneers and decorators Robert Kime and Piers von Westenholz.

In doing so it beat its £12,000 high estimate by 310.4%, with bidders looking beyond an early 20th century replacement pedestal to appreciate the great beauty and historical merit of the piece.

The sale also featured a strong performance from an oak wardrobe, produced by Whytock & Reid in Edinburgh between 1920 and 1930.
It sold for £22,500 ($36,350), more than trebling its £5,000 high estimate.
A pair of circa 1924 Scottish limed-oak centre tables, produced for Liberty & Co after a design by Sir Robert Lorimer, came in well within estimate at £15,000 ($24,250).
Christie's Gemma Sudlow, in charge of the sale, commented: "Working with Robert Kime and Piers von Westenholz remains a privilege - their inimitable and complementary styles continue to excite international buyers - an active presence of private clients in the room, over 25 telephone lines busy throughout the sale, and scores of online bidders joined forces to see a sale result which doubled pre-sale expectations."
