A major collection of Man Ray photographs is coming to auction next month.

The 144 strong ensemble is the largest auction of his photographic works since 1995, and will go under the hammer on October 30 in Spain.

With estimates ranging from €2,000 ($2,500) to €200,000 ($257,250), there will be opportunities for all.

Amassed by Italian art dealer Camillo d'Afflitto during the past three decades, the collection features several black and white self portraits as well as portraits of artists, and depictions of African art.

The anticipated highlight of the sale is a 1926 work printed in 1950: Negro y blanco, positivo, or Black and White, positive, which has a €200,000 ($257,250) valuation.

The striking piece will be joined at the sale by a circa 1934 gelatin silver print of an African figure. Senufo feminine figure, Niena, Mali has a €40,000 ($51,450) high estimate.

The American born Dadaist and Surrealist artist, who spent the majority of his career in Paris, is best known for his photography.

Little appreciated during his lifetime, since his death in 1976 Ray has gained greatly in prominence.

In February his 1936 photograph of a sculpture of the goddess Venus sold for €20,625 ($26,550), quadrupling its €5,000 high estimate, while a 1960s gelatin silver print signed by the artist, Solarized Nude, brought $85,000 against its $30,000 high valuation in 2006.
