Friedman Asian art collection sale stars $132,000 Jadeite wine vessel

Asian art and antiques continue to increase their popularity among the world's top collectors - most recently at an auction held in Ohio, US.

Among the sale's highlights was a collection of jade assembled by Richard C Friedman of nearby Shaker Heights, OH.

So noted was the late Mr Friedman's collection that news of its sale brought numerous Asian dealers and collectors from across the globe to the auction.

In the end, the highest lot in the auction was an Archaistic Jadeite lidded wine vessel (pictured). It brought $132,000.

Also auctioned was a White Jade Hu-Form Lidded Vase. That realised $119,850, sold to a bidder who had travelled from outside of the US specifically for the piece.

Overall, the auction brought $1.2m. Evidence, if any were needed, of the continuing success of Asian art, antiques and collectibles in 2012.

"We are exceptionally pleased with the results," said auctioneer Wes Cowan.

"After our inaugural sale in August, 2011 we were ... focusing on quality offerings. This sale was a validation of that focus: prices were strong across the board."
