Flea market Renoir painting to return to Baltimore

A judge in the US has ruled that a Renoir painting bought in a Virginia flea market for just $7 in 2009, which turned out to have been stolen from the Baltimore Museum of Art in the 1950s, must be returned.

The work, titled On the Shore of the Seine, was painted in 1879 and has been valued at $22,000. The FBI seized it in 2012 shortly after it was consigned to auction.

Last year a stolen Renoir was auctioned at Sotheby's London for £1m ($1.6m).

We have this handwritten letter from Renoir to his friend and patron Madame Marguerite Charpentier for sale.
