A collection of 68 albumen photographs by Felice Beato (1832-1909) sold for £173,000 ($286,470) at a Lawrences Auctioneers sale in Somerset, UK on January 31.
The lot was valued at £70,000, a figure it exceed by 147.1%, and included a number of images of China and Japan - including views of palaces in the major cities along with street scenes.

It was bought by a bidder based in China.
British-Italian Beato was one of the first Western photographers to make the journey to the Far East, and his photographs from China are some of the earliest on record.
