Edward Hopper's 1928 work Blackwell Island is to cross the block at Christie's New York for the very first time on May 23.
Offered from a private American collection, the painting features the New York City island from across the river, against a dramatic background of industrial buildings. Blackwell Island was renamed Roosevelt Island in 1971, in honour of President D Roosevelt.

Christie's $20m valuation suggests Blackwell Island has the potential to break the artist's $26.9m record - held by his 1955 Hotel Window.
The 1928 oil on canvas has been exhibited in several major museums, including New York's Museum of Modern Art.
