Copy of 'the most valuable Superman comic of all time' appears at auction

Auctioning alongside "THE most important piece of surviving original comic art in existence" (in the words of the auctioneer) is a close sibling of the most expensive and valuable comic book of all time, at ComicConnect's November-December rare comics sale.

Action Comics #1, featuring the debut appearance of Superman, made history earlier this year when an 8.5 VF+ ('very fine' plus) grade copy sold for a World Record $1.5m price. As well as being the most valuable Action Comics #1, it's also the highest-graded copy from the Comic Guaranty LLC authority (CGC).

The copy of Action Comic #1 presently for sale in ComicConnect's sale can't boast the same quality - it's actually graded 1.8 - yet it nevertheless remains an original copy of what many consider to be the most important comic book in the history of comics.

The 1.8 graded Action Comics #1 (bids currently
stand at $78,000)

Superman, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, made his debut appearance in June 1938. Copies of Action Comics #1 in varying conditions are known to exist, with five known copies rated at CGC 4.0 and a fifth discovered in July of this year graded CGC 5 ("very good/fine").

While ComicConnect's Action Comics #1 doesn't boast the quality of those specimens, collectors and fans have voted with their mouse buttons and pushed bids on the issue up to $78,000, just shy of the comic's $79,000 reserve. Watch this space for more news on the sale.
