Collection of fashion editor to auction at Christie's London

A remarkable private collection of art and furniture owned by one of Europe's most important fashion editors is to go under the hammer at Christie's London on July 1.

Expected to achieve in the region of £360,000 ($550,300), the collection is highlighted by those items which communicate their owner's affection for the natural world and her interest in spirituality.

Elements of the stylish collection

Two 18th century carved wood lions are particularly striking, while two Italian carved wood Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) hint at the religious undertones present in the extensive collection.

Both lots are estimated to be worth £1,000-1,500 ($1,528-2,292).

In addition to these antique sculptural items, an unframed oil on canvas entitled Orpheus Charming the Animals by a follower of 19th century painter Jacob Bouttats (whose oil on canvas Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden brought £3,125 to Bonhams in March 2013) is estimated to achieve £5,000-8,000 ($7,640-12,225).

A pair of paintings, Turkeys in a landscape and Storks in a landscape, by Angelo Maria Crivelli, is expected to make £8,000 ($12,225) in a single lot.

The sale is also set to star a number of items of maiolica pottery, and an unusual French birdcage.

In addition to editing Vogue Italy, the consignor has also edited Vogue France and Harper's Bazaar Italy.

We currently have a number of antiques in stock, including this beautiful, John Linnell-made George III antique cabinet.
