An 18th century painting of the Muslim prophet Muhammad's footprints is to cross the auction block at Mullock's on May 21.

The painting was completed during the time of the Ottoman Empire and is said to be based on imprints left in stone by the revered leader. It is expected to sell in the region of £10,000-15,000 ($15,340-23,010).

Painted in gold ink, the painting is one of many impressions of Muhammad's footprints, many of which are preserved in various mosques and shrines throughout the Islamic world. There are also examples to be found in Istanbul's Topkopi Museum.

The auction also features an impressive selection of Mahatma Gandhi's personal memorabilia, including his heavily worn sandals.
