What is perhaps one of the most profound images to grow out of the second wave of the
feminist movement, Untitled Film Still #21 by Cindy Sherman, will auction at Sotheby's New York on March 9.
The iconic 1978 image is estimated to sell for $150,000-200,000. It depicts Sherman, widely recognised as one of the most important female artists of her generation, as a modern 1970s businesswoman surrounded by the urban jungle.
A major retrospective of the artist's work will open at The Museum of Modern Art in New York on March 3, prior to Sotheby's sale.

This 8 x 10 inches is number 1 from an edition of 10. This print will be sure to attract top collectors. The others in the series are already in the collections of major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The print is signed "City Girl" on its reverse by Sherman, echoing its impeccable provenance. The still was gifted by the artist herself to a collector who helped organise her breakthrough exhibition in 1984.
This still has resided in the same collection ever since. Unlike the other prints in the series, this one has rarely appeared in public. Watch this space for more news on the sale.
