Charles Herbert Woodbury painting could sail to $35,000 in US auction

The late Massachusetts-based painter Charles Herbert Woodbury (1864-1940) will be among the leading lots in James D Julia's August Antique & Fine Art Auction, on August 25-27.

Entitled Boats, Perkins Cove, the work is an outstanding oil on canvas scene depicting five colourful dories moored in a calm cove, beneath a blue and white cloud sky. In the image's foreground are shoreline rocks and water.

According to James D Julia, the work is unsigned on the front but autographed by the artist on the back of the canvas, which could add to its collectability and investment value.

Also numbered "54" and housed in a fine Guido studios gilt carved wood framed, with wide gilt carved wood liner, the work carries an impressive estimate of $25,000-35,000.

Measuring 26 x 27 inches and described by the seller as being in "very good" condition, the painting will be among the highlights in the auction being held in Fairfield, Maine, US.
