Baum's Milford Square artwork makes $7,000 at hometown auction

Milford Square, A Village Near Quakertown, PA, was the highlight of three works by Pennsylvania artist Walter E Baum at an auction in his home state earlier this week.

The circa 1945 oil on canvas sold for $7,000 at the May 19-20 auction.

It is a typical Baum work, who is beloved by art buyers for his impressionist depictions of the Delaware Valley.

On Easton Street, another oil on canvas from the same period, also performed well, selling for $5,000.

Winter Scene with Houses was the third of the trio to sell, making $3,250.

The auction house's Ellen Miller told Paul Fraser Collectibles: "Walter Emerson Baum is a well-known regional artist. The results support buyers' continued interest in Pennsylvania Impressionist painters."

First trained by William Trego, Baum later enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where he progressed under the careful eye of Thomas Eakins' tutor, Thomas Anshutz.

The sale is a reminder to collectors that it remains possible to pick up highly collectible pieces of art from famous figures at attractive prices.

This signed sketch by Salvador Dali, available to you today at Paul Fraser Collectibles, is a prime example - and a wonderful addition to an entry-level portfolio.

Paul Fraser Collectibles will continue to bring you the latest from the world's art auctions, so make sure you check back regularly.
