Banksy's Barcode Leopard expected at $192,500 in UK auction

A previously unseen variant from Banksy's Barcode Leopard series has been consigned to Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions' Modern and Contemporary Art sale on December 5 in London.

Banksy Barcode Leopard
This is largest canvas by Banksy to have appeared at auction, measuring 84 x 91.5cm

The piece, instantly recognisable to those familiar with Banksy's work, is the largest painted canvas by the artist seen on the auction market. It is expected to make between £80,000 and £120,000 ($128,357-192,535).

The canvas was purchased by the vendor from a friend of Banksy, and has spent the past decade housed in their private London collection. It has since been authenticated by Banksy's Pest Control Office.

Another example of Banksy's Leopard and Barcode made $120,840 at auction in March 2012.

Also starring in the sale is a newly discovered pastel drawing by Max Pechstein (1881-1955), a German expressionist, which was unearthed at a UK car boot sale around 2008. With the owners previously unaware of its value, it will now sell for £3,000-5,000 ($4,813-8,022).
