Amazing Spider-Man #1 (1963) offered at Heritage

A CGC 9 graded copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (1963) is offered with an opening bid of $28,680 at Heritage Auctions.

The lot originates from the collection of Magik Woo, who amassed an exceptional collection of golden and silver age comics.

Amazing Spiderman 1

Spider-Man is one of the most popular comic book characters of all time

This is not Spider-Man’s debut (he made his first outing in Amazing Fantasy #15 the previous year) but it is his first appearance in a dedicated series.

As the auction house points out: “This issue can be still be had in high grade for what Amazing Fantasy #15 is going for in mid-grade.

“That makes Spider-Man #1 a good buy in our opinion, and this copy should be one of the most sought-after books in the Magik Woo collection.”

The lot has been signed by Spider-Man creator Stan Lee himself, which could galvanise bids.

In 2005, a CGC 9.6 graded copy of Amazing Spider-Man #1 achieved $97,750.

An original page of artwork by the legendary Steve Ditko for Strange Tales #141 (1966) is valued at more than $26,290.

It’s from a Doctor Strange story and features three main characters; Doctor Strange, his mentor Ancient One and villain Dormammu.

Ditko artwork is highly sought after, with an original page from Amazing Spider-Man #23 (1965) selling for $104,562 earlier this year.
