An early bufflehead drake will provide the highlight of a spectacular line-up of AE Crowell decoy ducks in Decoys Unlimited's July 28-29 auction in Massachusetts.

The decoy is described by the auction house as "the rarest and finest Crowell decoy we have ever been privileged to handle", adding that it is "essentially flawless, made during Crowell's prime". As such, it has been given a pre-sale estimate of $125,000-175,000.
AE Crowell (1852-1952) was a master decoy carver from Massachusetts. His works are the most coveted of all shooting decoys, with his preening pintail drake and Canadian goose sharing the world record at $1.1m.
