A rare bronze cocktail table designed by contemporary Belgian furniture designer Ado Chale brought $50,000 to Palm Beach Modern on March 30, leading the Florida auction by a substantial margin.
The auction house also saw a pair of circa 1970 small tables by Chale sell for $28,000, suggesting there remains a ready market for designs typical of the eminent artisan.

The Belgian's celebrated designs, a handful of which are owned by royalty and reside in museums, are believed to have evolved from a love of minerals, and his inventive hybrids combine a minimalist formality with the use of natural materials.
Auctioneer Rico Baca commented: "Everything he makes is elegant, original and perfectly proportioned. Many of his pieces are one offs."
