The Kittens’ Wedding taxidermy diorama sells for $121,000

A diorama by taxidermist Walter Potter titled The Kittens' Wedding (1890) has sold for $121,000.

The lot features 20 kittens dressed up for a wedding and was among the highlights of a sale at Treadway Toomey Auctions in Oak Park, Illinois on February 6.

Potter (1835-1918) ran a museum displaying various anthropomorphic taxidermy dioramas. In 1984 the collection moved to Jamaica Inn in Cornwall, UK where it remained on display until the early 2000s.

The Kittens' Wedding last sold for £21,150 ($30,500) in the auction of Potter's collection at Bonhams in 2003 - equating to growth of 20.6% per annum.
