RMS Mauretania scale model sells for $210,500

A 1:64 scale model of the RMS Mauretania sold for £135,000 ($210,483) at Charles Miller in London on May 12.

The RMS Mauretania set a speed record for an Atlantic crossing in 1909

It sets a new world record for a 20th century ship builder's model, up 101.4% on a £67,000 estimate.

The lot was produced to celebrate the launch of the Mauretania, then the world's largest and fastest ship, in 1906. It was later exhibited in London's Science Museum and the Shipping Museum.
