A rare Japanese vase by Kumeno Teitaro (1861-1939) has sold with outstanding results at McTear's Asian Works of Art auction, held on July 30 in Glasgow.

The cloisonne enamel vase sold for £17,000 ($25,852), up 240% on its £3,000-5,000 estimate. It is decorated with bird and floral motifs in a lake scene, bearing Teitaro's mark on the base.
At Bonhams in 2009, a plique-a-jour enamel vase by Teitaro sold for £31,200 ($41,446).
Teitaro was famed for his mastery of tsuki-jippo, a technique in which transparent enamel is applied over relief designs in gold or silver.
