Christie's has announced a pioneering way to purchase collectibles in time for Christmas, with a new Buy or Bid function in its online sales.

The new approach offers collectors the chance to buy a hand-selected group of items at set prices for a limited amount of time. The remaining items will then be priced with auction estimates and offered in the December 9 Interiors auction in London.
Nic McElhatton, chairman of Christie's South Kensington explains: "Christie's Buy or Bid builds on the existing auction offerings at Christie's South Kensington and offers customers the quality, value and expertise for which Christie's is renowned.
"For the first time at Christie's, buyers can secure a handpicked item for a fixed price - they don't have to bid; they can walk in and walk out of Christie's with their purchase, or buy on our website."
Collectors will be able to buy any time after 3pm on November 14 until December 3.

Also featuring is a 1963 Star-Jet pinball machine, which Christie's describes as an icon of the 1960s atomic age. It is available at £10,400 ($16,762), but will auction with a £6,000-8,000 ($9,670-12,894) estimate.
