Chinese jade brush dish tops Lyon & Turnbull at $265,500

A rare and impressive Chinese jade brush dish has seen strong results in Lyon & Turnbull's June 12 auction of Fine Asian Antiques in Edinburgh.

Qianlong brush dish Chinese
The brush dish is related to the famous black jade wine bowl that is considered one of the treasures of the Mongol court

The superb piece was consigned from a private US collection and bought by an anonymous bidder for £169,250 ($265,672).

It dates to China's Qing dynasty, under the rule of the Qianlong emperor (1711-1799) - a noted collector and patron of the arts.

The dish is particularly valued for its rare 'dragon amongst clouds' design, which can be found on similar imperial wares and is related to the famous black jade wine bowl that is currently housed in Beijing's Round Fort and considered one of the treasures of the Mongol court.
