She may look harmless, but don't be fooled.
This woman is responsible for 128 ruthless murders.
She liked to poison her victims in ingenious ways, using everything from strychnine to snake venom.
Her crimes were always meticulously planned and executed. They baffled police. And it took the world's greatest detectives to solve them.
Today I have the chance to offer you a rare letter from this criminal genius.
But this isn't a case of 'whodunnit'...
Because she's signed it herself.
"Dame Agatha Christie."
This handwritten airmail letter is dated August 29, 1971.
Christie writes in response to a request for a signed photograph from fans in Austria. Her kind reply reads in full:
“Thank you for your letter – I do not have any pictures or photographs to send. It is not necessary for authors as their books are their offerings to their public – not their own personality like actors or politicians. I will put an autograph in a space at the bottom of this letter which I hope will do instead.”
Christie signs the note with her initials “A.C”.
And in the sender's name section on the reverse Christie adds her full autograph “Dame Agatha Christie” in crisp blue ball-point pen.
She also includes her address at Winterbrook House, where she lived and wrote many of her novels for 42 years, and where she died in 1976.
The content of this letter is fascinating, because it provides an insight into Christie's thoughts on her own fame.
Despite being one of the world's most popular authors, Christie was an intensely private person who shunned interviews and publicity.
But she loved corresponding with her fans, and saved hundreds of letters from around the world.
This letter, sent to Austria, is a testament to her international following, and the high regard in which she held all her readers.
