A rare 1961 Lotus Elite Type 14 will be among the stars of H&H Classics’ July 26 auction at Duxford Imperial War Museum.
It’s expected to sell for around £75,000-90,000 ($95,542-114,651).
The model was created by Lotus founder and legendary car designer Colin Chapman.
It debuted at the London Motor Car Show at Earl’s Court in 1957.
It features a ground-breaking silhouette that dramatically enhanced the aerodynamics. It’s also the first car in the world to be built with an all carbon-fibre monocoque – dropping its weight down to just under 700 kg.
This gave it a significant edge over more powerful, but heavier, cars during races.
This example has recently undergone a serious round of restorations and is considered one of the finest specimens on the market.
H&H Classics’ Nick Lumby said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer this classic Lotus which not only benefits from period racing history but has also been subject to a meticulous restoration resulting in an extremely useable road car.
“In my opinion the Type 14 Elite is one of the most beautiful and accessible of Colin Chapman’s early creations”.
Other highlights include a 1933 Lincoln model KA town sedan, which is expected to reach £30,000-40,000 ($38,217-50,956).
