King George III Authentic Strand of Hair

King George III Authentic Strand of Hair

King George III reigned for just under 60 years between 1760 to 1820, surpassed in length only by his grand-daughter Queen Victoria. The reign was marked by huge change in Great Britain, including success and loss abroad and the formation of the United Kingdom.

Early in his reign, France was defeated in the Seven Years' War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of its American colonies were soon lost in the American War of Independence, which led to the establishment of the USA. A series of wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France, over a 20-year period, finally concluded in the defeat of Napoleon in 1815.

George was a keen patron of Science and Agriculture, later being portrayed as a man of the people, in contrast to his flamboyant successor and son George IV.

He notably suffered a period of madness during his rule, with his son and heir taking control as regent.

This approx ½" piece of King George III hair is presented on a display card perfect for framing*.

Superb provenance; the hair originates from the famed collection of Margaretta Pierrepont, wife of President Ulysses S Grant’s Attorney General.

* Please note the frame is not included in the sale price.
