A 1950 lightly lined 8x12" letter handwritten by US writer John Steinbeck in pencil - the medium which Steinbeck used to write his novels - and signed 'John'.
Steinbeck writes to artist William Ward Beecher (in part):
Dear Bill,
Enclosed is the thing I would like to have on the picture. It is from the end of forests. And it is I believe what I think. And I think it would be a good thing to put on the picture - don't you?
[...}
Love to you both, John.
You can find it on this painting just this way.
Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Steinbeck's hand and postmarked 9th August. 1950. In fine condition, with folds, mild toning, and a few edge chips.
A scarce and desirable artefacts from one of the 20th century's key writers.
